The Royal Wedding!!! Have you ever SEEN so many crazy-mazing hats??

Posted on April 29, 2011 by yankeebean

I literally feel exhausted after watching the royal wedding.  I was soooooo freakin’ excited!!  Far more excited, in fact, than I ever thought I’d be.

PeacefulYorkshire and I were Skyping each other while watching the prep on the BBC.  It was awesome watching Wills ride to the Westminster Abby (not a shabby place to tie the knot, I must say…).  Kate’s dress was insanely gorgeous – she looked completely perfect.  I think she did an awesome job of masking the outright terror she must have felt because of the pressure and attention.  I walked down the aisle with 35 people watching at it almost ended me… 2 billion and I would’ve needed to be air-lifted down the aisle with a special lacey bridal oxygen tank for good measure.

But my favourite part (aside from the ceremony, my Brit-lovin’-darlings) was the HATS.  Have you ever seen such outstanding hats in your life???  I couldn’t get enough of it.  I still can’t get enough of it… I’m going to have to Google some pictures after I write this.

I want one… a HUGE one.  A hat so big that the person next to me has to move down a chair because my swirly bits of fabric are waggling too close for comfort.

Have any of you lovely ladies bought giant hats or fascinators for weddings or the races?  I’ve yet to join that club… but I think I’m caving fast…

Congrats Wills and Kate!  You’re both gorgeous, lovely and surfing on a giant wave of wonga – the ladies of She’s Not From Yorkshire wish you the royal best! :)

This is such a sweet post! I’m hatdict, too, and ordered my first fascinator (I know there will be more!) from a lovely lady in the UK (I’m in NY) for an upcoming wedding. Also? I’m so glad to see you’re back to blogging. You were missed.

Bobbi, Where did you order your fascinator from in the UK? Any tips for our American ladies that would like to do the same?

Hi Karen – thanks for stopping by! I know EXACTLY who you’re talking about re: your favourite quote. Wasn’t it awesome to see so many people celebrating?? I’m still excited…

Just came across your blog – and loving your humour… its almost British! I do love Americans though and will always be thankful that some of our brave british brothers dared to ‘To boldly go where no man had gone before’, well sort of.

I too enjoyed the hats and all the pomp and pageantry, but my favourite quote yesterday was the lady in the crowd who said ‘she’d had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoyed it and hadn’t stopped crying all day’ – we are such emotional creatures and I admit I too kept the tissues close by.

I happen to be from Yorkshire and love it but currently living on the opposite side of the Pennines, in Manchester. Keep the blogs coming – Karen

Both Eugenie and TPT were wearing P.Treacy hats but i dont think that either were big hits. I love the fact that we have such a great tradition in England of wearing hats or fascinators to weddings – hats are a big deal and everyone wants to know what the mother of the brides hat will look like – i think Carole Middletons hat was nice, it suited her but Camila really looked great in what she was wearing. I live in Mexico and we seem to be invited to some posh wedding every month, i have tired to convince my fiancee about me wearing a hat.. my husband to be really doesnt like or understand it – as is custom to stipulate dress code at weddings here, i think i might push on this tradition to my mexican guests at my wedding next summer.

Beatrice’s hat is INSANE! What was she thinking?? Mr. Nice Guy thinks she might be thumbing her nose as the Royal Fam a little because her Mom wasn’t invited…

I have two favourites, mainly because they were so outrageous that they deserve a bravery award. I love gutsy women, you see.
    1) Was worn by one of Fergie’s daughters…. did you SEE that big contraption on her head? It was light pinkish/peach and *very* tall. She was sitting directly in back of HRM, and at some points it looked like it was coming out of the Queen’s own head it was so big!!
Well, lo and behold looks like the Mirror already is on the case so I can show you a pic!

    2) A navy blue ‘space boat thingy’ hat worn by Tara Palmer-Tomkinson that can be seen here…
